The Other Man

Sometimes it can be awkward, having a lover who cannot speak. They communicate with no problems, each knowing instinctively what the other wants and giving it to them without question. It's unconditional, their love for one another, which is just as well because there are some days when Paul really does wish that Oliver could speak. He would never tell him as much, of course. It was hard enough being able to accept that he never would. For both of them.

Paul needs someone to talk to though. He can't bear this, the thought that he may never see his friend again. He wonders if it's wrong that he thinks about Christoph each night as this ship takes them further and further away from his kingdom. His home.

Oh, he knows. Home is with Oliver, now. Wherever the man he loves is, he must be. And wherever they both are together is where they will call home. But each night he gets this pang for something that he knows he shouldn't miss. He's not sure it's even just the friendship he had with Christoph. Or the bond he had developed with Richard and their daughter over the years. He has a vague idea of what it might be, but it is something that he cannot give a name to, for fear it will grow and he will be unable to hide it any more.

That's part of the problem. He doesn't want to hide it any more. He wants to tell Oliver just how much he misses Christoph. He wants Oliver to tell him it's all right and that all that talk was nonsense and that of course he will see his old friend again. That it won't be years before they can even consider going back and running the risk of never finding him, or discovering that while Paul has remembered them, they have moved on and forgotten he and Oliver both.

But Oliver cannot speak and Paul cannot be comforted and every night his feelings of anxiety, fear and, above all, loss grow along with the distance between him and the other man that he has grown to love.

Well, a couple of people have asked when we'll be updating this journal, what will be going on it, etc etc.

And this is the plan :

We have artwork from the Fools And Kings series (including a couple of icons) which will be getting posted on here. And the intention for this journal is now to write a bunch of drabbles which will cover The Missing Years from all three series. So..anything before King's Keeper, anything between the end of KK and Fools, and anything between the end of Fools and the beginning of At War. And..eventually..stuff that happens after At War. So, there you go. That's what you can look forward to, as well as... >.> Possibly a few other bits and pieces. :D
